18 August 2010 – Tomato, cheese and leek tart; mustard greens sauteed with bacon

Tomatoes again. D didn’t think he could bake a bread this morning, so last night we decided I’d keep cooking, b/c I do a lot of things that don’t need bread with them. Like this.

Violating format here, but I couldn’t resist that closeup 🙂

We each have half of this tart, which is supposed to be an appetizer. But it certainly works as a main dish – sort of a pizza with a pie crust. This is half of my eventual serving. A bit more on this back on the 31st of July.

Before handing off the kitchen to D, I also used up the bacon and the aging mustard greens, some of which were beyond repair, others of which were still a very nice and crispy green. I did R’s favorite thing with them, of sauteeing bacon bits, then adding the tightly rolled and thinly sliced greens and cooking briefly before covering and abandoning till everything else is done.

D brought up a Monte Antico for dinner, and we enjoyed that with this meal.
