9 September 2010 – Bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches; avocado and tomato salad

I had this sudden flash that we never have BLTs  because we think of them when it’s not tomato season. So now is the time. I went to the Bowl and managed to get several things we needed, counted and came up with the right number (somehow) and still forgot the bacon. But D picked it up on the way home, so I didn’t have to go back, anyway. That was nice, much as I love the Bowl.

It’s also the season of terrific avocados (though admittedly, they are pretty much always good) so we split a huge avocado between two salads, and one great tomato, all over romaine. D made a dressing – I think it had lemon rather than vinegar – b/c he is so good at it.

We were thinking of this sandwich in part because the Arizmendi bread was so good for toast, and not great untoasted. It was an excellent BLT toasting-bread.

We had this wine again that we really enjoy. It’s also so nice to look at 🙂 A Nero d’Avola from Sicilia that we get at the Bowl for about $11.
