Tomato-basil pasta; Brussels sprouts with hard sausage bits – 2 October 2011

It got to be about 7 pm and D had not thought about what to cook. We have a lot of really nice basil plants outside, so I suggested a pasta we learned about from “The Top 100 Pasta Sauces” which is basically canned tomatoes and basil.

D cooked some onions and garlic for this version, and then added a can of diced tomatoes and a slew of good basil leaves from the garden. It was very yummy. He also boiled up some Brussels sprouts, and then cooked them with finely diced hard sausage, still from M&N’s leftovers from their trip to Pt. Reyes. I really enjoyed dinner 🙂

We had a glass of this wine each for lunch, and then D put the rest in the fridge, still in the same bottle (recorked) to wait for dinner. It was fine, and a somewhat better bottle than the previous one we had. This J. Vidal Fleury Cotes du Rhone is a wine we’ve gotten for years from Trader Joe’s and have liked quite well. This bottle is a 2009.
