Jacket potato with Beemster and cannellini beans; broccoli – 13 March 2012

D planned this one in advance. He bought two medium russet potatoes at the Bowl, and microwaved them for about 10 minutes, then opened them, topped with cannellini beans covered with Beemster (a gouda), and broiled to mel the cheese.

We added little bits of unsalted butter – and then, ironically, salt – to the potatoes as we ate through them. D thought they should have had more cheese, which is remarkable coming from him.

D boiled broccoli in salted water, then reheated in some butter and a bit of lemon, and it was an especially good taste. He actually started the meal well in advance by handing me two radish halves as an appetizer.

We had another tester wine from Grocery Outlet, this a Corbieres called Les Deux Rives, 2010. We both liked it, but would have been happier with it if it were not $8. All in all, a satisfying meal of very tasty comfort food.
