Spaghetti with tomato sauce; brie with herbs; fresh tomatoes – 13 September 2012

Two sources of dinner came together tonight. R finished cleaning out his old apartment last night and celebrated with a good beer, Dirty Girl Produce dry-farmed early girls, and some Fromager d’Affinois herbed brie. He left the rest of the brie with D with the recommendation that it went especially well with the early girls. Definitely the case.

D took some tomatoes he’d bought in a bargain bag a few days ago, trimmed and parboiled for peeling, and made them into an interesting tomato sauce, using a bit of the Columbus Salsice Secchi, some cranberry beans he bought at the Bowl, and more of the usual ingredients (onion, garlic, etc.), a few white mushrooms, and half a long, thin, bright green hot pepper (Anaheim?). It was a delicious dinner.

D bought an Acme sweet rustic baguette to go with it.

He chose a Brutocao zin, 2008, which we got at Grocery Outlet for an amazingly low price. Great wine!
