Grilled cheese sandwiches; sugar snap peas – 15 April 2013

Both D and I got home really late. I think I was supposed to be cooking, but instead we sort of punted a really simple meal together. We had the nice Acme Levain still to eat, and a lot of cheeses, so I suggested grilling sandwiches on my panini press. I chose the excellent Gruyere from The Cheese Board, and it was outstanding. I put a small amount of paper-thin-sliced shallots on the sandwiches, and a good layer of mayonnaise, and cooked them in the press. D stemmed and cleaned up the snap peas, and cooked them in butter, I assume with some salt and pepper.

He chose a 2009 Bordeaux from Trader Joe’s that cost I think $4.99 – “Les Portes de Bordeaux”. It was good for the price, but nothing I would go out of my way to find again.
